Description
Novritsch SSX303 NBB Gas Rifle
The Novritsch SSX303 Stealth DMR Gas Non-Blowback Rifle builds upon years and years of MK23 development amongst enthusiasts, hybridizing several homebrew solutions into a pre-build DMR carbine with a professional look, high grade materials and fantastic finish.
The combination of the MK23 NBB pistol internal system, extended inner barrel and TDC HOP-up unit has been something Airsoft snipers have been putting together for many years now but not without the technical hurdles and trial and error which come with any Airsoft custom build.
The SSX303 has all of this and much, much more already installed from the factory and tested to perfection by Novritsch’s development team. The result of this is a pre-build DMR rifle which is rock solid, with all the performance benefits of a lifestyle sniper’s custom MK23 but without any of the sketchy bodge jobs and the fiddling and time commitments that come along with them. If you ever wanted to just pick up a performance-oriented DMR platform and just get to work with no upgrades and tuning necessary, the SSX303 Stealth DMR should bring a smile to your face, and a frown to your enemies’!
Starting at the front, we can find 14mm CCW male threads at the tip of the outer barrel, ready for a tracer, suppressor or flash hider of your choice. We recommend going for a suppressor for the SSX303 to take advantage of its super silent action; adding a foam-filled suppressor will turn the muzzle crack into a muffled thud, making it nearly impossible to pinpoint your location amongst the ambient noise. Looks-wise, we think the CYMA dummy sound suppressor suits the SSX303 perfectly but you are free to mount whatever you please thanks to the common 14mm CCW threading.
The chassis extends to almost the tip of the barrel, giving you plenty of room for accessories and wasting no space whatsoever. At the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, we are treated to M-LOK negative space attachment slots, as well as additional slots at the upper offset angles. These allow you to mount M-LOK accessories such as bipods, grips and tactical flashlights directly but you can also make use of 20mm Picatinny rail adapters for M-LOK to mount more common 20mm Picatinny accessories. The chassis is constructed from CNC machined aluminium, allowing it to maintain a slim profile and low weight while being extremely rigid and well-suited to mounting optics.
Moving rearwards we come to the mock ejection port, and inside we can see the adjustment dial for the TDC adjustable HOP-up unit. The dial allows you to adjust the backspin effect applied to your BBs and tune the SSX303 for different weights of ammunition. The tool-less external adjuster means you can adjust the HOP-up on the fly, making mid game changes when you need to without carrying Allen keys or disassembling the rifle. We recommend going for 0.3g and above when it comes to BB weight as the HOP-up is remarkably strong and capable of handling most sniper-weight BBs.
At the rear of the chassis, we have an M4/AR-15 buffer tube constructed from alloy with a steel castle nut. The buffer tube provides 6 positions of adjustment for whichever stock you choose to mount. The included stock is an RS3 type A-frame design with the adjustment lever in the centre, based on the real world Magpul MOE stock and credited with reducing snags thanks to the adjustment lever being contained within the A-frame of the stock. Below the buffer tube, we can see a QD sling socket ideally placed for a single-point sling mounted via a QD sling swivel (not included) and at the toe of the RS3 stock we have an additional ambidextrous QD socket in case you prefer a two-point sling setup.
The frame/lower receiver of the SSX303 is a MK23 pistol frame, familiar to many snipers with its comfortable design including ambidextrous controls and an enlarged trigger guard. The trigger guard has plenty of space inside for full finger gloves and is curved at the front to allow for its use as an additional point of contact. The magazine release is the pushdown MK23/USP style release and is mirrored on each side, making it great for left-handed shooters and those who like to shoulder-to-shoulder transition to make the most of the surrounding cover.
The manual safety is located at the rear of the frame and can only be activated when the hammer is cocked. Obviously, the hammer is concealed beneath the chassis, but the hammer can still be cocked by carefully pulling the trigger back to halfway, after which you will feel it click. With the trigger half-cocked you can flip the safety on using either the left or right side safety catch. With the red enamel dot revealed, the rifle is ready to fire, and with the white enamel dot revealed the rifle is in safe mode and the trigger is locked. Half cocking the trigger is also a great way to reduce the trigger pull force of the SSX303 and get that first shot off with better accuracy.
At the base of the grip, we can see the Novritsch logo in his signature font; a subtle nod to the man behind this awesome DMR carbine design. Just above the grip, on the chassis, we also have laser engraved trademarks reading “NOVRITSCH SSX-303”. The grip itself mimics the MK23 NBB pistol with crackle texture on either side and pyramidal texture on the front and rear, providing exceptional gripping qualities no matter the weather conditions.
Internally, the SSX303 is a true diamond, boasting accuracy at up to 65 meters when set up correctly and FPS/velocity well within the realms of DMR territory. During our tests, we achieved approximately 450 FPS with 0.2g BBs and VORSK V8 green gas which is probably a bit too hot for most site’s DMR rules but shows the full potential of this system when pushed to the limits. With VORSK V6 green gas we got a slightly more sane ~400 FPS with 0.2g BBs so we recommend sticking to V6 or equivalent standard-pressure green gas and saving the higher pressure stuff for the winter months.
This immense accuracy and range is all thanks to the highly efficient MK23 non-blowback action, the Maple Leaf 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel and the TDC HOP-up unit, pairing together for an out-of-the-box DMR that is quieter than a mouse fart and can reach out to sniper rifle range. The magazine of the SSX303 also has its part to play, with a redesigned gas route bucking for a smoother trigger feel and a widened follower track which allows for it to be loaded through the front in seconds.
The magazine catch spring has also been considerably redesigned, which any MK23 user will know, was something the platform was crying out for. Thoughtful touches like this show the experience the Novritsch development team has with Airsoft guns and provide confidence that the SSX303 was put together by some of the best techs and designers in the business.
If you like the idea of a DMR but you want to sneak around unseen all day, the SSX303 is the right tool for the job. Whether you are transitioning over from a bolt action sniper rifle or an AEG assault rifle, you will find the SSX303 to be a superb long-range skirmish platform which has genuinely surprising performance coupled with supreme build quality.
